Chocolate Hot Cross Buns

Easter is on its way and what's better than a hot cross bun, even better with chocolate...Right?

Here we are making sumptuous Chocolate Hot cross buns for you.

They are so fluffy and oozes out chocolate...OMG so good.




Whether you are entertaining guests or just want to make something special for the family, Hot cross buns never disappoint and chocolate ones are surely an indulgence.

We will not take much of your time.

Let's start with the recipe.





Chocolate Hot Cross Buns





Yield 8 buns

Total Time: Approx 3 hours


Ingredients


50 gms Butter, Melted

1 tbsp Allspice Powder

1 cup Sugar

Nutmeg, grated

1 egg

1 cup Milk

2 cups all-purpose flour

7 gm Yeast

salt, a pinch

1 cup Cocoa Powder

1/2 cup Raisins, soaked

Chocolate bits, 8 pieces

White chocolate, melted

Honey, heated, for glaze




Direction


  • Take Melted butter in a mixing bowl, add all spice powder, Sugar, nutmeg give it a mix, add milk and egg gradually. Mix everything together.

  • In another Mixing bowl take all-purpose flour, salt, Yeast and Cocoa powder. Give it a good mix. These are your dry ingredients.

  • Prepare a well in between dry ingredients and pour wet ingredients in it. Don't Pour everything at once. The batter should not be runny. It's just everything that must come together to form a mess.

  • Transfer the chocolate mess on the surface and knead it by pushing it forward. If the dough is too sticky gradually inculcate some flour in it.

  • At first, it will feel sticky but after kneading for good 15-20 mins it will come through. Transfer the dough back to a greased mixing bowl and let it prove for 1 hour. Cover it with a damp kitchen towel.

  • After its proved i.e double in size, punch the dough and knead for some time. Again transfer to a surface, flatten a little with fingers and add raisins to it. Fold the dough and knead again. All the raisins should mix with the dough.

  • Now make a cylindrical shape out of the dough and cut it into 8 equal halves. Take each half and flatten a little with fingers. Add chocolate bits in the center and seal properly. Form it into a ball and keep it aside. Prepare all in the same manner.

  • Line the baking tray with Parchment paper and keep all the balls in it. Cover with a damp cloth again and give it second proving for 45 mins. They will become bigger after 45 mins.

  • Make a flour and water paste and give the buns the design of the cross through putting the paste in a piping bag and decorating.

  • Preheat oven and bake the buns for 20-25 mins at 180 degree Celsius or 450 F

  • Let the buns cool and then glaze them with hot liquid honey and decorate the cross with white chocolate.

  • Your chocolate Hot cross buns look and taste absolutely delicious.





Notes


  • This Recipe contains egg, if you don't consider it as vegetarian, skip it.

  • If the dough becomes too sticky even after kneading a lot, put in some flour or if it's too dry you may add little milk.

  • Instead of raisins, you may add any dried fruits.
